The championship is organized by the association Hius- ja kauneudenhoitajien maailmanjärjesto Finland ry, which is dedicated to the development of hairdressing and the beauty industry in Finland.
Open Hair Cup Finland is an international hairdressing championship held annually in Helsinki. It is organized as part of the "I Love Me" exhibition at Messukeskus, the largest exhibition center in Northern Europe, and is a significant event in Finland's beauty industry.
History and Development
The Open Hair Cup Finland championship was founded in Finland and was first held in 2019, evolving from local hairdressing traditions. Its primary focus is the development of hairdressing artistry and the support of talented professionals in the field.
Over time, the championship has become an important platform for professionals from different countries. Last year, hairstylists from 11 European countries participated, highlighting its popularity among industry professionals.
Open Hair Cup Finland attracts both experienced stylists and aspiring professionals, offering them the opportunity to showcase their talent and gain professional recognition.
Industry Impact
The Open Hair Cup Finland championship is a member of the international hairdressing association CMC WORLD, headquartered in Italy. This affiliation helps expand the number of participants and provides Finnish specialists with access to European and world championships.
The competition features live broadcasts in a television format, including interviews and multi-camera coverage. Photographers and reels makers are also invited to provide real-time event reports. The live stream is available in multiple languages, ensuring accessibility for an international audience.

Every year, in autumn, Messukeskus, the largest exhibition centre in Northern Europe, hosts the International Open Championship of Hairdressing Art Hair Cup Finland as part of the popular seasonal exhibition I Love Me.

Fashion Haircut with Styling

Completed Haircut: The finished haircut must have a daily commercial look and should not be a "Progressive Haircut". The work should conform to current fashion trends. The work is to be performed on a model. Before starting, the model's hair should be dampened and combed back.

Hair Color
1.1. Harmonious coloring using no more than three colors.
1.2. Bright colors are allowed, but neon colors are prohibited.
1.3. The use of colored sprays is prohibited.
Hair length
2.1. Before the competition, the hair length must be at least 10 cm.
2.2. The use of hair extensions and natural hair wefts is prohibited.
Tools
3.1. All tools for cutting and styling are allowed.
Products
4.1. All styling and fixation products are allowed.
Attire
Must be appropriate for the nomination.
Timing
Masters and juniors – 40 minutes + 3 minutes (after the "Stop" signal,
participants have an additional 3 minutes to prepare for the
demonstration of their work on the model and clean up their
workspace).
Evaluation criteria

Clean execution, form, and color design.
Maximum: 30 points, minimum: 24 points.

2.Geometric Haircut in "Avant-garde" Style (on mannequin)

Created using geometric hair cuts along perfectly
precise lines to achieve maximum boldness. Angularity, boldness, and sharp
transitions are characteristics of the avant-garde geometric haircut style for
any hair length.
The head should be prepared only with coloring and outlining before work, but no cutting and styling in advance.
Hair length
a. The hair length before the cut should be at least 10 cm.
b. Participants must cut at least 3 cm during the allotted time.
c. The use of wefts and pre-attached hair extensions is permitted.
Hair Color
a. Creative bright colorings with at least three colors are allowed.

3.Evening Salon Hairstyle "Evening Style"

Commercial Fashionable High Evening Hairstyle: Participants create a
commercial, fashionable high evening hairstyle aligned with the latest fashion
trends.
1.1. The contest work is performed on a model or a mannequin head with
shoulders that meet competition standards.
1.2. Before the competition, hair should be combed back.
1.3. Hair may be pre-treated (e.g., crimped, curled with an iron, etc.).
Hair length
Shoulder length and longer.
Hair color
3.1. The model's hair should be pre-colored.
3.2. One or more colors can be used.
3.3. The color should be harmonious and in line with fashion trends.
3.4. The use of colored sprays is prohibited.

All tools are allowed (brushes, irons, curling irons, etc.).

The hairstyle must be up, with only 25% of the hair allowed to be free.

4.Hollywood Wave

The main features of the Hollywood wave include large waves on the hair, the same size of curls, side parting, soft styling lines, and at the same time accuracy in performing hairstyles. Volume is allowed. It is also important for the master to take into account the length of the hair: the shorter the hair, the smaller the curls should be in diameter.
Hair length
The choice of hair length is free.
Hair Color
The choice of color is within the commercial range.
Tools
All styling tools are allowed.
Preparations
It is allowed to use all preparations for styling and fixing hair.
Prohibited
The use of jewelry, hairpins, and clips after the work is completed.
Postiche and hair extensions. It is prohibited to use jewelry, hairpins, and clips after the work is completed.
Going into fantasy mode is forbidden.
Clothing
Allowed to use Costume, makeup, and accessories.
Conditions The curling is done in advance, but the models come out on the catwalk with pre-prepared hair (curled).

5.Bridal Hairstyle "Bridal Style"

Participants create a commercial fashion bridal hairstyle in a romantic style
(low bun or ponytail), oriented to the latest fashion trends.

2.1. The competition work is performed on a model or on a
competition-standard mannequin head (with shoulders).
2.2. Before the competition begins, the hair should be brushed back.
2.3. The hair can be pre-processed: crimped, curled with an iron, etc.

4.2. One or multiple colors can be used.

Demonstration of Mastery: Participants showcase their technical skills by creating
an artistic evening hairstyle. The work is performed on a competition-standard
mannequin head with shoulders. Before starting, the hair should be combed
back. Hair may be pre-treated.
Hair length
1.1. Shoulder-length or longer.
Hair Color
2.1. The model's hair should be pre-colored.
2.2. A harmonious transition of at least two tones is required.
2.3. The use of colored sprays is prohibited.
Tools
3.1. All tools are allowed (brushes, straighteners, curling irons, etc.).
Styling
4.1. The hairstyle should not give the impression of loose hair.
4.2. Hair must be fully gathered, with only 25% allowed to be free.

7.Collaborative Category: Hairdresser and Makeup Artist "Modern Bride"

This category is open to both hairdressers and makeup artists.
Participants' work must be expressive and aesthetic, aligning with current wedding
industry trends. High professional skill and teamwork are essential. The hairstyle and
makeup should harmonize to create a cohesive bridal look. The makeup artist starts
the creation process, followed by the hairdresser working with the
model. Participants can perform as both hairdresser and makeup artist individually or
in a team.

1. Makeup:
1.1. Create a modern bridal makeup look following the latest fashion
trends.
1.2. Makeup should suit the bridal theme, including toning, face contouring,
lips, eyebrows, eyes, and makeup fixation.
1.3. Preparation Level:
1.3.1. Makeup is performed directly at the competition site; prior skin preparation and application of foundation only are allowed (subsequent face correction is done on-site).
1.4. Prohibited:
1.4.1. Body art (drawing or elements of drawing on the face)
1.4.2. Use of models with permanent makeup or extended eyelashes
1.4.3. Use of watercolor paints or face paint
1.4.4. Presence of sketches or photos at the workplace

3.1. Masters and juniors – 90 minutes (45 minutes for the hairstyle, 45
minutes for makeup).

A commercial men's haircut in classical or neoclassical styles (like a crew cut, tennis
cut, quiff, undercut, pompadour, etc.) is tailored for everyday consumers and should
resonate with urban streets. The final result shouldn't lean too much towards
technical intricacy or excessive creativity. The model's hair should be moistened and
slicked back.

Hair color:
Natural or dyed. The color choice is open, yet it shouldn't be too vibrant; it should harmonize and appear natural. No more than two colors. Pre-dyeing is allowed, while using colored sprays is prohibited.
Hair length:
● Before the competition, the hair length should be a minimum of 5 cm overall,
with no less than 3 cm in other areas. Along the hairline, it should be no less
than 1 cm.
Tools:
● All haircutting and styling tools are permitted.
Styling:
● All fixing products are allowed for styling.
Attire:
● The model's attire should align with contemporary fashion trends.
Work time:
● Masters and juniors - 40 minutes.

2. Original men's haircut in FADE style (Model)

A short commercial men's haircut. Executed on a model. Participants perform the
haircut and styling in the BARBERING style. Mandatory execution of the haircut in the
Fade technique - a men's haircut technique where the hair gradually transitions from
0mm to unlimited length, created with clippers and scissors, resulting in a smooth
(velvety or smoky) fade. The finished hairstyle should be fashionable, appealing to
consumers, and have a masculine appearance. Before starting work, the hair is
moistened and slicked back.

Hair color:
The hair color is natural or may be pre-dyed in a single tone from level 5 to level 1
depth. Bright colors are prohibited. Sprays are prohibited.
Hair length:
Before the competition, the length of the hair on top is free, and around the perimeter
of the head (above the ears, in the nape area), it should be at least 1 cm.
Haircut:
The haircut is performed in Fade techniques. In the finished form, the haircut should
have a "zero fade" of the hairline, starting from 0 mm in transition, without extending
beyond the nape area. Shaving must be fully executed in the competition.
Tools:
All tools for hair cutting and styling are allowed.
Styling:
All products for styling and fixing are allowed.
Attire:
The attire must correspond to modern fashion.
Work time:
Masters and juniors - 40 minutes.

CLASSIC MEN'S HAIRCUT WITH SCISSORS (Model/Mannequin Head)

Participants create a men's haircut from longer hair using basic cutting techniques
such as graduation, blending, etc. Before starting work, the hair is moistened and
combed back.

Hair Color:
The hair color can be natural or pre-dyed in a dark shade, ranging from level 5 to level
1 depth of tone. Bright colors are prohibited. The use of sprays is also prohibited.
Hair Length:
Before the competition, the length of the hair on top is free. Around the perimeter of
the head (above the ears, in the nape area), the length should be at least 1 cm.
Haircut:
The nape area must be trimmed in a traditional manner. Styling can be done with a
straight contour line or without.
Tools:
Clippers are only allowed for outlining, all other tools are permitted.
Styling:
The use of all styling and fixing products is allowed.
Attire:
The model's clothing must correspond to modern fashion.
Work Time:
Masters and juniors - 40 minutes.

FAST & FUTURE FADE MEN'S HAIRCUT (Creative)

The theme of the haircut is chosen at the participant's discretion, aiming to create a
haircut with a Fade element, which can be located in any part of the haircut,
providing complete creative freedom. The main task is to create an unusual and
possibly creative haircut or shape, combining the concepts of fast execution (FAST)
and the haircut of the future (FUTURE). Before starting work, the hair is moistened
and combed back.

Hair Color:
Any colors are allowed, including bright ones, depending on the participant's
imagination. The use of sprays is prohibited.
Hair Length:
The hair length is free, but in the fade zone, it must be at least 1 cm.
Haircut:
Creating a creative haircut with a Fade element.
Tools:
All tools for cutting and styling hair are allowed.
Styling:
All styling and fixing products are allowed.
Attire:
Clothing must correspond to the created image.
Work Time:
Masters and juniors - 40 minutes.

Avant-garde is an original and vibrant direction where color and shape play a crucial
role. There are no strict rules in avant-garde style, but the hairstyle should give the
image completeness and integrity without going into excessive fantasy or
theatricality. It should be spectacular, innovative, on-trend, using interesting textures
to create unusual looks. The model steps onto the podium with a fully finished work.
Final touches are made after the "START" command.

Participants must create a fantasy image in any style, where the model can be either
male or female. The model walks onto the stage with a fully prepared work, and final
adjustments are made after the "START" command.

Hairstyle:
● The use of postiche items such as wigs, extensions, etc., is permitted.
● The size of the postiche decoration should not exceed 50 cm in diameter.
Hair and postiche decoration color:
● All colors are allowed.
Costume, makeup, and accessories:
● Must support the integrity of the image.
● Penalty points will be deducted for failure to comply with these requirements.
Time: 5 minutes.

Creative Coloring - Finished Look (Model or Mannequin)

Creative coloring involves unconventional coloring of part or all of the hair with
bright, vibrant, harmonious colors using various techniques or stencils. Participants
enter the competition stage with their models or mannequin heads ready for
evaluation by the jury. Models can be either female or male.

Hair Length: Hair can be long or short.
Hair Color: Color gradation of at least three shades. The final color must be
harmonious and in line with fashion trends. All colors, including neon, are permitted.
Colored sprays are prohibited.
Tools: Any tools are allowed for styling.
Products: Choice of dye brand and color is arbitrary.
Styling: 80% of the hair must remain straight and hang down.
Prohibited: Hair accessories, supportive means, hair extensions.
Clothing: Costume, makeup, and accessories must correspond to the category and
the overall image.
Execution Time: Masters and juniors - 5 minutes.
Evaluation Criteria:
● Color idea in combination with the form; creativity.
● Execution cleanliness.
● Complexity and uniqueness of the coloring technique.

The jury of the International Hairdressing Championship Finland is appointed by the Hius- ja Kauneudenhoitajien Maailmanjärjestö Finland Association.
All members of the jury are esteemed professional stylists and also nominees of International championships.
As well as honored artists and internationally recognized masters
During judging, the jury must be able to see the complete hairstyle, general impression of the work, color and cut. The judging is held in an open voting mode.
The final decision of the jury is not subject to appeal.
